February Chapter Meeting
February 4, 2025 @ 11:30 am - 1:00 pm
Fan systems play a significant role in U.S. energy consumption, comprising approximately 2% of the nation’s total energy use. In response to this, ASHRAE 90.1 and the International Energy Conservation Code (IECC) have recently implemented new standards for fan efficiency, introducing minimum requirements based on the Fan Energy Index (FEI). This metric aims to improve overall energy efficiency in building systems.
This presentation will explore two key aspects of FEI:
- Regulatory landscape: We’ll examine the current code requirements and regulations surrounding FEI, providing insight into compliance standards for manufacturers and building designers.
- Practical application: We’ll demonstrate how FEI can be utilized as a tool for selecting fans that offer the best combination of energy efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and performance for specific applications.
By understanding and applying FEI principles, professionals in the HVAC industry can make informed decisions that contribute to energy savings and improved system performance.
